Looking for Cars...

Well it's now been three weeks since my unfortunate accident. And I have a car!!!

Wow! It feels so good to be able to drive again. As much as I love walking, you lose so much independence when you don't have a car.

First world problems I know...
But I couldn't get to the shops to pick up new dry shampoo, so I had to wash my hair everyday. It didn't help I was wearing a hat whilst walking. I'd rater sweaty hair than a sun-burnt nose though!
I could only go to the local supermarket, which is expensive, and I could only buy what I could carry home... which meant going with out tomatoes and making frequent trips.
I couldn't bring my school work home with me. I had to stay late at school... then I had to walk... so i was getting home super late.

I was starting to feel a bit down, with the looking for a car every free moment... and taking so much more time to get anywhere... So I needed cheer me up nails.

These are the nails I decided on!

Sally Hansen Navy Baby topped with KBShimmer Clown Puke
Look at the flower I got on my ring finger! In all honesty I hadn't actually noticed that Clown Puke had fun shapes in it as well. I just thought it was an awesome rainbow glitter... but no it's more than that...it's a circus for your nails!

It was thoroughly awesome when I test drove a dark blue VW Golf... and my nails matched!
I really did fall in love with the Golf... well the seats and interior anyway! I wasn't thrilled about the way the car drove. But the seats... wow.

My new car is pretty awesome though. A white 2004 Toyota Corolla Runx. I like it anyway :)

Rimmel: Some Spam

I was so disappointed when I went into Postie Plus in Upper Hutt yesterday.
Normally you can find all sorts of nail treasures. Rimmel, Sally Hansen, Kleancolor, Revlon, LA Colors....
But no, yesterday they had neon orange Kleancolors... and that was pretty much it.

Farmers Upper Hutt had the new OPI Euro collection... But I wanted cheap polish! I didn't want to pay $26.90 a bottle!

These gorgeous Rimmel polishes are all polishes I've found at Postie Plus (on good days).

I really like the Rimmel 60 seconds polishes. The brushes are easy to use and good size. They may not dry in 60 seconds... and may not be one coaters... but I still really like them! I mean look at the pretty shimmer!

Well my two giveaways ended on Wednesday.... So it's about time I announced the winners!

I'll be emailing the winners today. Remember you need to respond within 48 hours please, otherwise the giveaway will be redrawn.

Valentines Nails!

Well rather belated... But I still wanted to share my Valentines Day nails.
I loved the softness of this mani.

OPI Play the Peonies topped with Girly Bits Heirloom
I loved how dainty and feminine these two polishes looked. I actually wore this combination for four days. It was still going strong, but as someone who generally changes their polish every day... It was time for a change.

China Glaze: Bitz n Pieces

Argh. I can't believe that it's Sunday already!

It's been another crazy busy week. Any time I wasn't at school was spent looking at cars or marking tests. In fact I've been so busy that over the last 2 weeks I've only painted my nails 3 times. That's a drastic difference compared to my usual every night.

I left my camera at school on Friday. We were lucky enough to have the circus visit with a group of contortionists. Honestly it was amazing to watch the 15min show they put on for the kids. So I took some pictures...then forgot about my camera until I went to use it on Saturday...

I have some great manis to share as well!

My looking at cars nails... and my Valentines day nails.

Today though I have swatches of the awesome Bitz n Pieces polishes from China Glaze. I admit when I first saw the promo's I was like...umm meh. They just looked like glitters. But they're in fact awesome glitter toppers. I'm not sure I need them in every colour... But they sure are a fun way to spice up a mani.

Scattered and Tattered over a nude...
Bling it On over Essie Nice is Nice
Grafitti Glitter over Color Club Twiggie
Mosaic Madness over a very pretty blue... I wish I could remember what I used. It looks super pretty!
Glitz N Poeces over LA Colors Seafoam
Razzle me, Dazzle me over SH First Kiss
Eeeek. Without my camera I can't remember some of the polishes I used for undies! I'll have to track it down on Monday. What is happening to me? I normally keep an insane amount of polish knowledge stored in my head... I hope looking at cars hasn't overwritten it!
I shouldn't know car makes and models...

My Week

I've been feeling super sorry for myself this week.

It was my first week back at work after the summer holidays. Surprisingly that's not what made me mopey!
In fact my class have been absolutely amazing. They're following instructions, listening to each other, sharing, being super polite, trying to do their best work... They're so fantastic they won the best class award for sitting in assembly.

Two different views of my classroom
Yes I'm a very proud teacher.

Anyway, I'm super mopey because on Monday night we had torrential rain, which caused a lot of surface flooding. Unfortunately I had to go out to pick Nick up from work. As I was diving down SH2, I was doing about 80k, in the 100k zone (the weather was terrible and you couldn't safely drive faster), I noticed everyone changing lanes. So I carefully changed lanes. The road was completely flooded. Everyone was slowing to go through. I let the person in front of me go through and started to go through myself. I could see there was a car coming behind me, I kind of assumed they'd stop... But they didn't. They crashed straight into the back of my poor car. So we were shunted forward. Luckily the car in front had gone far enough that I didn't hit them.

Turns out the driver of the other car was from overseas, in a rental car and in the country for about a week. At least they did stop and pull over to the side of the road behind me when we'd passed the flooding.

Anyway I made my first emergency call, did my first police report, sat in a police car for the first time... oh and had my first accident.

The other driver was at fault and the policeman gave them a ticket for not driving to the conditions. They said they were doing 95k before their brakes failed (due to the flooding and not pumping them to clear the water) and they crashed into us.
It doesn't look too bad... but the boot can't close
Luckily for me mum was in the car with me, otherwise I totally would have been freaking, and we weren't hurt. Just some whiplash and a sprained finger.

I feel sorry for the people the crashed into me. It was their first day in New Zealand and unless they took out insurance with the rental car company...they will have a nasty bill, paying for my car and any damage they did to the rental (I didn't really look... I was more concerned with my car).

When you look inside you can see where the car absorbed the impact.  It's supposed to be straight... not smooshed.
I feel sorrier for me though. It's not very fair. I did everything right...and now my car has been written off and I have to buy a new one. Of course I can't buy a new car with the insurance payout. As my car was a 1995 Nissan Lucino the value had depreciated rather a bit over the last few years. Luckily my insurance are going to assess the market value for me... but it's a rather drawn out process and I still wouldn't be able to afford even the same car again. I saw a 1994 Lucino for 5k... but I won't even get that. argh! not fair.

The panel-beater said it's between 3-4k worth of damage.
I'm very thankful that no one was hurt... but I want my car!!!

Even though we're still waiting on insurance , we've been spending every spare moment looking at cars. I'm not very keen to test drive them. I'm still feeling rather nervous about driving.

Anyway on to other cuter and more exciting things...

Aristotle learned a new trick
Aristotle is adjusting to being at home alone during the day. He's very needy when I get home though! He's worked out how to jump on to the kitchen bench, via the oven. He needed to get on to the bench for hugs, because I was doing the dishes, instead of playing with him.

I wore the same nail polish for 5 days this week. I applied it Sunday night... and it lasted though til Friday night, when I just needed to change it.

The magical polish that last all week was OPI The Impossible. I'm loving the liquid sands...if not for their funky texture and pretty glitter, but for their incredible staying power on me.

Swatch: OPI The Impossible

swatch: OPI The Impossible with top coat
I didn't take any photos before I added top coat on the third  day to my actual mani, so I've used swatch pictures to show how gorgeous this polish looks with and with out top coat. I didn't fish out stars... in fact I put the stars that came out back.

Actual wear after 5 days! I added top coat on day three for a slightly different look.
So I guess in all my week hasn't been that bad!

Good things this week:
1. Nail polish lasted 5 days and looked awesome.
2. My class are amazingly fantastic.
3. Aristotle is a cutie
4. I continued to loose weight, despite my period.

Bad things:
1. My car got written off.
2. Cramps.

So more good than bad!

Kitteh Spam and a NOTD

Some of you may know that we have two kitties. We have Smokey, a gorgeous 2 year old short haired gray girl. We adopted Smokey as a one year old cat when her mummy moved to Australia. We also have Aristotle, a 15 week old silver tabby boy.

We've had Aristotle for almost 4 weeks now and Smokey has adjusted very well to having a kitten invade her space. To be honest Aristotle is lucky that Smokey puts up with him pouncing on her.

Awww kitteh love love.
last night was the first night they've slept on our bed together and I managed to snap this photo of Aristotle licking Smokey. Too cute!

Aristotle is a mischievous wee boy.

Preparing to pounce on Smokey
I caught him in the sink this morning
Attacking my cotton pads
He owns the TV
And wires beware
He also steals toilet rolls. So far we've lost 5 toilet rolls and one roll of handy towel. I have no idea how he gets the roll off the holder! All you can hear is his funny little chirp, then a frustrated squawk and a happy squeal when he finally gets it. We have to keep the door closed at all times.

He's lucky he's so darn cute. Have I mentioned he doesn't meow... He runs around the house chirping. he responds to Chirp Chirp as well as he responds to Ari or Aristotle.

I must say though, he is by far the cutest when he is asleep!

Anyway on to nails! Today you actually get a nail of the day. Yes, this really is the polish I'm wearing right now! Yes i went outside and took this pictures 5 min before sitting down to type! yes I was wearing ridiculously high wedges, that don't match my shorts, because I thought I'd wear them in.

Today I'm wearing Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Himalayan Blue top with Naild'it grape Vine.... and it's a gorgeous combo!

Now I'm off to tidy the house, sort out all my class resources and games I didn't want to in the holidays and plan for school to start on Monday!
